WHAT I'VE ACCOMPLISHED so far
Senior Project

Build a prototype of a portable solar panel with automatic tracking of the sun. The unit will have methods of adjusting the tilt and rotation of the panel to maintain an orientation perpendicular to the incoming sunlight. The user needs only position the unit so that it generally points south (northern hemisphere), and is level to +/- 15 degrees. The controller uses time, location, and measurement of the panel position parameters to adjust the position of the panel (tilt and rotation) to track the sun within +/- 10 degrees.

Heat Tracing System (Internship project)
  • Analyzed Heat tracing Systems installed on oil production pipes; redesigned the Heat tracing System by changing the heat tracing cable to increase the circuit length and minimize the number of junction boxes, local switches, and thermostats. This system required upsizing the branch breaker from 32A to 40A to account for the wire size.

PC Controlled DC Power Supply

  • Built an adjustable power supply able to supply voltages from 2-14V for 21W loads. The device displays the voltage and current to a local display, and programmable over a USB serial port and a touch screen.

Sensor Calibration with MATLAB
  • The collected data will be transfer from the microcontroller to the MATLAB to calculate and display in real-time on a single graph with multiple Y-axis. The thermistor graph displayed thermistor resistance, temperature based on a linear approximation, temperature based on the Steinhart-Hart model, a running average of one of the models, and finally the difference (%) between the two temperature models.

Audio Visualizer

• Designed and built an audio visualizer system that takes in an audio signal from a microphone and displayed its signal strength in at high and low bands.

• The system takes the signals from the microphone and passes it through an amplifier than to the active bands, the output of each band graph with 4 LEDs representing the relative strength of that band in the audio signal.
